My philosophy of education reflects my feelings and attitudes toward education and teaching. It is based on respect for the teaching profession, respect for students and their families, and a desire to foster learning according to each individual student's needs.
Learning can take place in many different circumstances and contexts. I believe everyone is capable of learning but a student's desire to learn is essential to mastering new concepts and skills. Many students have multiple learning styles. Some may be auditory learners, some may be visual learners, and others maybe hands on learners while some may have secondary learning styles such as interpersonal, spatial, musical, and physical styles. The classroom setting and teacher can encourage or inhibit learning depending on the dominant learning style of each student. Accommodating different learning styles creates an atmosphere that is conducive for all learners. Students adapt many of their learning habits from their teacher. If the teacher doesn't get excited about the subject and show a passion for learning, students will be much less likely to put the effort to learn in class. I will convey to the students his or her knowledge and expertise (prior knowledge) before they will show a willingness to learn.
I will try to encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for students, provoke conversation about the concepts being presented and organize material in a way that makes it easy to understand. I will integrate subject matter across curricula to emphasize that everything the students are learning fits together into a comprehensive understanding of the real world. Students will develop their own personal worldview. Finally, I believe that respect for my students is among one of the most important things I can show them. Hopefully, this will encourage their openness to the material I present to them and inspire them to show respect for each other.
I hope they realize that learning is a process that never ends. Personally, I believe the learning process includes continually improving myself professionally. As I continue to teach, I also aspire to enhance my ease and confidence in front of my students and peers. Finally, I will implement the different methods and means of presenting information to my classes as they become available to me. This will allow to grow as teacher and enhance the learning atmosphere for my students.
